Quadrant Scale is intended for measuring the basis weight GSM of paper and other sheet materials by weighing a small test sample with given dimensions. Scales are calibrated to precision dead weights. This accuracy is maintained as long as the pendulum returns its original form and is kept free from corrosion, distortion, or other causes, which may affect its weight and balance.
GSM is known as Grammage per square meter, which is an important factor in Paper and Packaging industry for measurement. GSM Scale is used to measure the GSM of paper through the weight of paper. Body of GSM Scale is made up of stainless steel. There is a pendulum attached in GSM Scale which is used to calculate the GSM of paper when hanger moves along with it. The accuracy of weighing paper should be proper and the accuracy depends upon the movement of pendulum. This accuracy is maintained as long as pendulum achieved its final position. GSM Scale has tabular pendulum. The gravity provides good stability and reliability to GSM scale. In single graduate scale, scale selects only one template.
Calibration of GSM Scale should be done by precision dead weight. Generally we used 0-250GSM Scale. So we take 20 x 25mm template to measure the GSM of paper. GSM Scale is calibrated to measure the GSM of 20 x 25mm sized templates.Sample of paper taken from the templates placed in the hanger of GSM Scale and then we released the hanger along with pendulum. When pendulum stops moving and become constant then this is the GSM of paper. 0-500 GSM Scale is not used generally but it can use for measuring the GSM of Kraft paper, whose thickness is more than average writing printing paper. The whole process of GSM Scale is done manually.Accuracy of GSM Scale should keep free from corrosion, distortion and other reasons which affect the accuracy of weight.
